Hello Parents!

My name is Heather Eaton and I will be your child's Spanish teacher for the upcoming semester.  I am very excited about having your child in class.  Your child will be learning new vocabulary, grammar concepts and about the many different cultures that speak Spanish.  I encourage you to learn Spanish with your child.  Learning a new language can be very exciting!

A little about me:  I received my Bachelors of Art from the Univeristy of Louisville in Spanish.  I am currently working on my Masters of Art in Teaching at the University of Louisville.  I will be graduating this spring!  I grew up in the military and have lived in many different places including Panama City, Panama.  I returned to Panama twice to participate in a one month study abroad program with the University of Louisville.  I have also lived in Delaware, Alabama and Nebraska.  I love to travel and have a personal goal of traveling to all of the 21 Spanish speaking countries at least once.

This year I will be using new methods to keep in contact with parents and to help the students study at home.  It is the wiki, which is similiar to a web page.  Every month I will post a new newsletter on the wiki and you can check it to see what is happening in Spanish class.  The wiki is also where students will post their blogs they will be required to write weekly.  The blogs will range in topics from their thoughts on a certain aspect of culture to grammar concepts.  I encourage you to look at the blogs to see what your child is learning and how they are interpreting the learning.  I will also create a weekly podcast where you student will be able to hear the weekly Spanish vocabulary words.  There is also a link which contains the written form of the words.  Homework will also be posted on here nightly, so you make check to see what your child is expected to do for that night.  Remember, your child must study every night, even if he or she does not have a formal assignment.  I will also post upcoming tests and projects. In addition, I will post powerpoints used in class as well as helpful handouts and notes.

This month the Spanish 2 classes will be reviewing on what they learned in Spanish 1.  We will review present tense regular and irregular verbs, the differences between ser and estar, ir+a+infinitive and question words.  They will be focusing on new learning such as saber and conocer, hace+time expressions and making comparisons.   In addition, we will start the weekly vocabulary quizzes on the first week of school.  The first three weeks are already posted.  The first quiz will be Friday, February 1st.
