- Respect yourself, others and their belongings and property.
- Be prepared for class each day. This means bringing all materials, which includes your homework, as well as being ready to learn!
- Arrive to class on time.
- Follow all school rules and procedures.
- Allow Ms. Eaton to teach.
Classroom Procedures and Expectations
Entering the classroom:
- Enter quietly and be seated in your assigned seat before the bell rings
- Sharpen your pencil before class
- Always look at the Agenda to see what will be working on for that day.
- Get out your materials, including your completed homework, and begin work on the Bell Work activity, which will be written on the white board along with the agenda for the day. The bell work is a daily activity and will be turned in at the end of each week.
Tardiness
- If you are tardy, you must sign the tardy sheet with the time. The tardy sheet is located by the classroom door. After your third tardy you will receive a detention. You are considered tardy if you are not in your seat working on the Bell Work activity by the time the bell rings.
Absences
- All absences must be excused.
- If you are absent you need to see me before or after school or during my planning block to get assignments from me. I will not come to you to give you your make-up work nor may you get it during class time. You will have as many days as you were absent to contact me about make-up work.
- If you miss a test due to an excused absence you will take the test according to how many days you were absent. For example, if you were absent for one day, you will take it the day after you return.
Late Work
- Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date. You will lose 5% off your assignment grade for every day the assignment is late. If you feel you need an extension, please see me in private.
Leaving the classroom at any time
- You have three times you are permitted to leave the class, this includes but is not limited to, getting a drink of water, going to the bathroom or going to your locker. Every time you leave I will note this in your passport (more to come on this later!). If you go all semester without using your breaks, you will receive 5 extra credit points at the end of the semester. After you use all three, you will be assigned a tardy.
- I dismiss the class, not the clock or the bell. I will tell you when you can stop working and gather your materials.
Discipline
- Cheating is not allowed, this includes using online translators.
- Pay attention to announcements
- Do not throw anything in the classroom for any reason. The classroom is our space we use to learn. We need to respect it.
- Electronic devices not used for school purposes, including, but not limited to, MP3 Players, CD players are not permitted. If I see the device, I will confiscate it. Your parents will have to pick it up from me.
- Do not write on desks, in books or on any other school or personal property.
- Raise your hand to ask a question. If we are having group discussions, I will let you know when you may comment without raising your hand.
- If I have to answer the phone or leave the room momentarily, I expect you to keep the noise level down and continue working.
- When I raise my hand, you need to be quiet and focus your attention on me.
- South Oldham High School and Oldham County Board of Education rules will be followed at all times. This includes the dress code and cell phone policies.
Personal Space
- Do not touch anything on my desk or behind my desk without my permission. I will respect your personal belongings and I expect you to respect mine.
Consequences
1st time – Verbal warning
2nd time – You or I or both of us will call home to discuss the problem with a parent.
3rd time – I will issue you a disciplinary.
If the issue continues I will call a conference with your parents and/or principal.
School procedures will be followed at all times.
Rewards
I am a strong believer in positive reinforcement. You will be rewarded for good behavior and participation in my class. When you demonstrate positive behavior and complete homework assignments, I will give you a “peso.” With these pesos you will be able to purchase items like a homework pass or other items I may have.
